An island perfect for tourists

With its jagged  coastline and cliffs overlooking the sea, Ustica has been a marine reserve since 1987. The island offers its visitors breath-taking natural treasures: ancient grottos, unspoilt inlets and coves, beautiful beaches such as the Cala Sidoti and Punta dello Spalmatore, and stunning rocky bays.

The island of Ustica is crossed by a mountainous dorsal that culminates in the area called Guardia dei Turchi, which was used in the past as a sighting spot against the Saracens who sought to invade the island.

To defend themselves against Arab invasions, two lookout towers were built, the Torre di Santa Maria and Torre Spalmatore, which were part of the Sicilian coastal towers alert system. The two towers are currently home to an archaeological museum and the Riserva Marina.

The centre of Ustica is brimming with narrow streets and quaint villages, with staircases adorned with beautiful hibiscus flowers. The island can be visited by motorbike or by buses that efficiently and practically connect the whole island and render Ustica an island perfect for tourists.
