Caronte & Tourist - Strait of Messina

The transport of pets and other small domestic animals (dogs, cats, etc.), is permitted when health certificates are provided. In compliance with regulations regarding health and safety, pets and domestic animals, once accepted by the Company, must travel in the places provided. Passengers are forbidden to take them into public areas. Passengers are responsible for any damage caused by their animals to any third party. The Carrier denies any responsibility for any confiscation or suppression of animals by the port authorities, as it does also for the loss, injury or death of such animals during embarkation, disembarkation and navigation. The embarkation of larger animals is subject to the incontestable discretion of the Captain. Authorised large dogs must wear a muzzle and be kept on a leash from embarkation and during navigation. The transport of all animals (regardless of size) is the exclusive responsibility of the passenger and/or the owner. Acceptance on board does in no way imply legal responsibility on behalf of the vessel or Carrier.

Caronte & Tourist - Salerno-Messina

The transport of home small pets along with the passenger is allowed as long as they have a registration in the canine registry, a certificate of good health issued by a veterinary doctor and all the necessary vaccinations, if needed, and the relative ticket has been purchased. In compliance with the Health & Hygiene Regulations, pets when accepted by the Company, during the crossing must be kept in the premises they have been reserved on board, since it is forbidden passengers to keep them in their cabin or in the social spaces (except when the service pet-cabin is active).
Passengers are responsible for every damage caused to things and people by their pets.
The Carrier will not be held responsible for any possible sequestration or elimination of the pets by the Health Authorities of the embark/disembark port, or for lesions, loss or death of the animals during the transport or the embark/disembark procedure.
Embarking larger sized pets (not-small pets) is subject to the irrevocable decision taken by the Captain of the vessel. Taking always into due account what has been reported above and the exclusive liability of the passenger for damages to things or people caused by the animals, in case of authorization for dogs which are not-small pets the passenger must put a muzzle on the animal and restrain it with a leash throughout all the journey. In any case, the transport of every animal (small or large sized one) is always performed at the passenger’s exclusive risk and/or at their owner’s risk. The vessel or the Carrier cannot be held responsible at all if the Captain allows/admits the animal on board.

The Company and, on its behalf, the vessel’s Commander, at his discretion, have the right to deny embarkation to any container or vehicle containing animals of any kind. The transport of such containers and/or vehicles and of any animals, if accepted on board, is under the responsibility of the loader and the owner of the animals (if different from the loader). It is implicit that any authorisation for embarkation on the part of the Commander cannot be considered as acceptance of responsibility on the part of the vessel and the Company. In consideration of this, the loader is also exclusively responsible for the care (food, water etc.) of the animals during transport and may thus be allowed access to the garage only with the authorisation from a member of staff.
