Christmas means two things for Caronte & Tourist Group: solidarity and art. They are two elements which are closely related for the Company that every year organizes Onde Sonore, an initiative that actualizes the double aim in a series of live concerts on board which proceeds are donated to charity associations.
Onde Sonore is a consolidated artistic event that, reached its fifth edition, is proposed every year as a unique opportunity for the city of Messina to support national and international associations rooted in the territory living moments of high level of music made in Sicily.
Although the event has been conceived five years ago in full Christmas spirit, thanks to the success achieved and the general appreciation, the show has been repeated on several occasions during the last year. Last manifestation organized by the Group, in fact, was called Onde sonore Fuoritempo, which has just ended on November 24 and has supported ABC, a pediatric association; thanks to this initiative it was possible to reach a total influx of 430 passengers-spectators that have generated a proceed - that C&T has doubled - for an amount of five thousand euros.
Talking about charity, for this Christmas the sum total deriving from the attendance at concerts will be devolved to two different charities: to LILT, the Italian League Against Cancer, to which it will be allocated the total donation of four days of concerts, and to Telethon Foundation for which will be organized a special event planned for December 18th. Fundraising, as usual, will take place through the simple purchase of passenger tickets - that cost 5 euros - and the amount of the proceeds will be doubled once again by Caronte & Tourist.
The start to the festival will be given on Sunday 15 December at 6 p.m. The concert calendar is distributed until 5 January, for a total of five shows lasting about three hours divided into a double performance. Everything will be set up on the flagship Elio, the first eco-sustainable ship that has sailed the Mediterranean.
The sea will put together musical cultures from all over the world and from all decades. In fact, the artistic director Max Garrubba conceived a multi-faceted Christmas calendar that includes ten groups coming from several musical backgrounds.
"Selecting the artists for this new edition was challenging - says the director - as usual when you want to reach the best. I worked according to my personal rule that I call “the rule of the three Qs": Quality, because a high level festival requires equally important proposals; Quotient, intended as intellectual, which has to characterize the artistic proposals that must be intelligent and creative, bypassing everything that is not really a true and valid artistic project; Quorum, to underline how important is to reach an even wider majority of consensus and appreciation through a complete and composite artistic supply that can satisfy the passengers’ demand, continuing the extremely positive trend of the event of the past years. "
The C&T festival will be started by the rock doublet planned for the event titled "Kiss my .. Rock". The first group will be the Palco/Oscenico, who will try to drive the spectators in an intense journey on the classic rock timeline, and the Deuce , Kiss’s tribute band.
The "Telethon special event", instead, will be characterized by the eclectic female ensemble Glourius 4, specialized in pop and jazz, while the second part of the performance will turn to the folk spirit of I Cantustrittu.
On the 23rd you will enter the full spirit of Christmas with the event "You come down from the stars", where the gospel echo of the Cantica Nova Gospel Choir and the Blue in Blues band will be the main characters of the day.
"Usa to Africa" is the title of the event planned for December 29th, but it will also be the show’s main theme that for that day will host the Trinity Unite, the Afro proposal of Onde Sonore and the Horny Brothers, specialists of country and American rock.
The last appointment is titled “Black Sunday” and will take place on the 5th January; it will be characterized by the “black notes” of the soul/R & B spirit of the Alessandra Chiarello quartet and the Matt Pascale & Walking Blues trio.
Caronte and Tourist Group has also organized children’s entertainment with a double appointment on the Telepass ferry, starting from 10am until 7pm: on December 22nd Santa Claus will brighten the day of young passengers, while on Epiphany day, gifts will be distributed by the Company during a party dedicated to music and games.
Both baby-parties will be the occasion for a third charity operation: the sum collected from the presence of passengers will be entirely donated to the Community of Sant’Egidio, committed to fighting poverty and help people in need of the city of Messina.
Ethical sponsor of C&T’s Christmas will be once again Posto Occupato, an initiative which aim is to support and raise awareness about gender violence’s emergence.
