Procedure/assistance for persons with reduced mobility (PRM)

The Caronte & Tourist S.p.A. always paid particular attention to the needs of disabled passengers and reduced mobility and has been equipped to allow them, in transit through their terminals and on board their ships, to use the services in conditions equal to those of other passengers.

The assistance is free, is carried out by staff of Caronte & Tourist and consists in the accompaniment of the PMR in all stages of transport, from the purchase of the ticket to the landing, and during the stay in the terminal.

Requests for simple accompaniment, that is to be carried out with or without a wheelchair, and the transport of luggage, can be made at the time of purchase of the ticket, and at least 2 hours before the departure of the vessel.

Requests that include all other cases, among which we cite, by way of non-exhaustive example, the transport of PMR that requires particular accommodation on board and / or the aid of medical equipment that are in its availability, must be carried out with a notice of at least 48 hours with respect to the scheduled departure, so that Caronte & Tourist has time to gear up to fulfill this particular request. In relation to the characteristics of the specific request, Caronte & Tourist can also decide what the naval unit should be to be used among those carrying out the transport service on the following day.

Alternatively, assistance for boarding and disembarking operations can be requested by contacting the control tower at the following number: +39.0965.79.31.43, shortly before arriving at the Messina or Villa San Giovanni boarding yard.

The assistance, upon request, will be carried out, with the procedures specified below:

Boarding procedure

The person with reduced mobility and the person accompanying them, following the usual procedures, are to present themselves at the ticket office, declaring their needs. The personnel responsible will promptly notify the Command of their presence. The on-board Command will inform and send one or two certified PRM crew members to the access gate in order to board the ship.

In the event of an accompanying car, the same will be parked on the deck in a special parking space.

The personnel in charge will accompany the Person with Reduced Mobility and, during the crossing, if necessary, the PRM will be assisted by the staff on-hand for any need.

Disembarking operation

The person in charge will accompany the person with reduced mobility to their vehicle or to the disembarkation gate, where they will be given priority landing.

Emergency

If any emergency occurs during the trip, the person with reduced mobility will be assigned a fixed person for rerouting to the meeting point.

 

Messina - Salerno Line

Access to the ship for Persons with Reduced Mobility takes place through the appropriate deck.
There are 2 pathways with suitable for the removal of structural barriers.

Boarding procedure

Persons with Reduced Mobility are required to specify their needs at the time of booking. Accordingly, the office responsible for providing appropriate information to the relevant ticket office, which shall promptly notify the Command on board regarding their presence, the latter shall then inform the Commissioner on board who will send one or two persons certified to assist P.R.M. to the access points for the designated decks.

In the event of an accompanying automobile, it will be parked at deck no. 5 under shelter.

The appointed personnel will accompany the P.R.M. to the Reception area who, after carrying out the boarding procedures, will be escorted to the cabin/s reserved for him/her (Cabin no. ____ and Cabin no. ____).

If necessary during the trip, the P.R.M. will be assisted by the staff responsible for any need.

Disembarking operation

The person/s appointed by the Commissioner will accompany the P.R.M. externally to the deck intended for their vehicle and will be given the utmost priority for disembarking.

Emergency

If any emergency occurs during the trip, the Person with Reduced Mobility will be assigned a fixed person for rerouting to the meeting point.
