Depart with Siremar aboard the ferries to Lipari, the largest and most populous of the Aeolian Islands. Reaching Lipari is easy thanks to the connections with Sicily from the port of Milazzo and with the Campania region from the port of Naples.
Our fleet also serves the internal routes amongst all the islands of the archipelago.
It is smooth sailing with Siremar in complete relaxation, thanks to the comfort offered by our onboard services.
Not to be missed is the unique view reserved for those arriving by ferry to the port of Lipari: even before you land, you can see its castle, a natural fortress that emerges from the island.
Lipari is the top Aeolian Island in terms of size and number of inhabitants. It is the only island of the archipelago to be equipped with an urban layout that has developed around its castle. This natural fortress was home to the earliest human settlements on the island, ranging from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age, before becoming a Greek Acropolis and the central nucleus of a Roman city. The castle was a mine of archaeological finds today preserved at the Museo Eoliano, one of the most important in the Mediterranean.
Not to be missed is a tour of the island by sea, thanks to the fishermen who own the boats moored at Marina Corta. It is an adventure through which you can reach sites that are inaccessible by land, such as the beautiful beaches of Canneto, Portinente, Spiagge Bianche, Pomociazzo and Porticello on the east coast, and Praia Vinci, Valle Muria and Praia Lunga on the west coast.
The famous pumice beaches are unforgettable, as is the obsidian caves.
During the dictatorship of Benito Mussolini, many historical anti-fascists such as Carlo Rosselli and Ferruccio Parri were sent to the confines of the island. Ironically, in September 1945, Edda Ciano was also serving a period of detention in Lipari, during which time she had a sentimental relationship with Leonida Bongiorno, a former officer of the Alpini and then partisan and militant communist.
