A dive into prehistory

Panarea constitutes a micro-archipelago located between Lipari and the island of Stromboli, including the islets of Basiluzzo, Spinazzola, Lisca Bianca, Dattilo, Bottaro, Lisca Nera and the rocks of the Panarelli and Formiche.

Known as the island for VIPs, Panarea is one of the most popular holiday destinations for tourists in the summer months, thanks to the nightlife atmosphere that can be felt as soon as you disembark from the Siremar Caronte & Tourist Isole Minori ferries.

An unmissable stop is the Punta Milazzese, near the crystal clear waters of Cala Junco. Here it is possible to visit the remains of a prehistoric village: 23 oval stone houses dating back to the Bronze Age (1400 BC) protected by an unbreakable natural fortress. A rock branch stretches out to the sea, from the overhanging walls.

On 29th June, celebrations dedicated to Saint Peter, the patron saint of the island, take place. The eve of the festival is entirely devoted to music and culture. Tourists have the opportunity to listen to folk groups, buy typical products from the numerous and colourful stalls, and take part in the rowboat racing competitions. The next day, 30th June, is dedicated to devotion: the inhabitants follow the statue of the patron saint, carried on their shoulders as they recite prayers. Once at the port, something very impressive takes place: the effigy.
