The ‘Peninsula of the Sun’ and of Garibaldi

Milazzo, according to Greek myth, is the "Peninsula of the Sun", enriched by the herds of the gods. Here, according to Homer's account, Ulysses remained imprisoned in the Grotta di Polifemo. In Milazzo crossed the fates of the Roman consul Caio Duilio, who defeated the Carthaginians, and Ottaviano, who bought Pompey to his knees.
Emperor Frederick II, King of Sicily, chose here to build his castle, which today is the greatest in terms of splendour and power in all Sicily.
Even Giuseppe Garibaldi reached Milazzo. Legend has it that Garibaldi slept on the stairs of the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, eating bread and onion.
Finally, the hero of Premuda, the Admiral Luigi Rizzo, born and raised in Milazzo, sank two Austrian battleships, thus changing the fate of the First World War.
A land of heroic saints and navigators, Milazzo is an ideal place for a vacation that is a step back in history.
