Lampedusa

A maze of Mediterranean-style houses

You are here

Ferries to Lampedusa (Pelagie Islands)

Set sail aboard one of ours ferries to Lampedusa, the most convenient means of transport to reach this pearl of the Pelagie Islands. Our connections operate all year round, with departures from Porto Empedocle and Linosa.

Upon disembarking from our ferries, passengers can immediately admire the beauty of the island, travelling along the seafront adorned with palm trees and historic houses, many of which are used as hotels or restaurants.

A maze of Mediterranean-style houses

The Lampedusa city centre winds along the old port and the new one (Cala Palme and Cala Saline), through a maze of houses in perfect Mediterranean style. Noteworthy are the "seven palaces" (one of which is the municipal headquarters), built in the first half of the 19th century.

Embellishing the urban context of the island are the works of two famous Italian artists: the bronze memorial by Arnaldo Pomodoro (in front of the municipal building) and the marble monument of Cascella dedicated to the sea (in Piazza Commendator Brignone).

Within walking distance of the town centre, the beach clubs on the shores of the beautiful Guitgia beach are not to be missed, being amongst the most popular of Lampedusa.

Lampedusa welcomes tourists with numerous festivals and celebrations throughout the year. Carnival is celebrated on the Tuesday prior to Lent, a tradition close to the heart of every Lampedusa local. Celebrated with spectacular fireworks on 24th August is San Bartolomeo, patron saint of the island. The 22nd September sees the Festa della Madonna di Porto Salvo, a festival dedicated to the protector of fisherman, represented by a statue under the sea in Cala Galera.
